Two popular casino games are slots and bingo. So if you hear the term Slingo, you’d be right to assume that the game combines elements of these two formats into something a bit different.
Slingo started as a social casino game in the early days of the internet on sites like AOL. Nowadays, Slingo is available in a number of formats, but for real-money gaming it’s found through online casinos including BetMGM.
Slingo has proven to be a pretty flexible format, whether more basic versions where you make Slingos to earn prizes, or more exotic versions that combine with other casino formats for things like dice rolls or free slot spins as your prize.
Today we’ll look at the basics of Slingo, but also explore some of the more unique versions available, and how you can get started playing Slingo games on BetMGM Casino.
How Do Slingo Games Work?
The core of any version of Slingo is the Slingo board, which consists of a 5×5 set of numbers (which is the bingo aspect) and a set of five reels underneath the board (the slots aspect).
When you buy into a game of Slingo, you get an initial number of spins to work to mark spaces on your Slingo board. This can happen in a number of ways:
- Matching numbers on the Slingo reels
- Wild symbols, which can be matched with any number in the column on which the Wild symbols lands
- Super Wild symbols, which can mark any number on the card
The reels can also feature instant credit prizes or mini bonuses within it, as well as free spins, which offer additional chances to land more numbers or wilds.
If you get five of a kind in any row, column or diagonal (12 total five-of-a-kind lines exist across the Slingo board), you get a Slingo. The more Slingos you get, the higher up the prize ladder you move. Completing all 12 Slingo board lines is a full house, and awards the top prize available.
One thing to be aware of is the initial wager to begin the game isn’t necessarily the end of wagering.
Extra Spin Purchases
Once you’ve completed all spins included with your initial wager, along with any free spins you were awarded during the initial portion of the game, you are given two choices:
- End the game, and collect the prize you’re currently at on the prize ladder (which can be zero, if you didn’t get any Slingos, or not enough Slingos to reach a prize level)
- Purchase an additional spin. The price of the additional spin will depend on how many spaces are left, what level of the prize ladder you’re on, and what level of the prize ladder you could achieve.
The number of additional spins you can purchase can vary by game. Some allow unlimited purchases until you get a Full House; others have a cap on the number of spins you can purchase. Whether you should keep playing or collect your prize is up to you – going for an additional spin can unlock bigger wins, but it’s a risk.
Spin costs can be a much larger multiple of your original wager, so it’s generally a good strategy to start with a lower wager, leaving room if you wish to keep spinning for a chance at those bigger prizes.
Variations of Slingo Casino Games
So now that you know the basics, it’s good to know that not all Slingo games have the same features. Within the BetMGM Casino portfolio, there are many Slingo game options, each with unique twists. There is Slingo with an arcade twist in Slingo Space Invaders, or a sports twist, such as New York Jets Slingo, which is a BetMGM exclusive. Here are just a few more examples:
- Slingo Honey Crew: The prizes are not pre-set – instead, you pick to reveal your prize. More volatility for those into that!
- Slingo Berserk: Along with the prizes for making Slingos, there’s the chance of winning a static jackpot prize.
- Slingo Super Spin: A sixth reel is added, offering the chance to line up more numbers. If the extra reel matches a number that appears on the other five reels, a Super Wild is awarded!
- Deal or No Deal Slingo: As you land numbers, prizes are removed, and you get offers based on how many Slingos you get and what potential prizes are remaining. More Slingos increase the multiplier applied to all remaining values, which boost your offers!
Many Slingo games are mash-ups with slot themes. These tend to offer slot bonuses like free games or bonuses that connect back to what made those slots special, so fans of particular slot brands may want to try out the Slingo games that share their name!
