Food trucks are hugely popular today and are getting more so with every year that goes by. This is because they offer a wide variety of fantastic food at great prices. They’re usually located in spots that are super-convenient and you have the satisfaction of knowing you’re supporting local chefs. So, if you’re looking for a flavorful adventure, grab a bite from these food trucks, or one in your neighborhood, before heading home to play your favorite online casino games.
1. Bites & Bowls
Winner of the Top Truck award at the Jersey Shore Food Truck Festival in 2019, Bites & Bowls describes itself as a “fast casual fusion cantina grill with flavors around the globe,” and promises only fresh, non-frozen food without preservatives. If you’re ever in the Milltown area (Middlesex County,) it’s worth getting your lips around the truck’s jerk chicken tacos, chipotle paneer quesadillas or any of its fusion bowls that are a delicious combo of basmati rice with chicken tikka masala and sun-dried tomato Alfredo pasta. Whether you eat on the street or take home as an easy dish to enjoy while you play casino games at BetMGM, these bowls are the perfect bite!
2. Fork in the Road
Another winner on our list (this truck has taken the best award a few times at the annual Jersey Shore Truck Festival held in Monmouth Park,) here’s where you want to head for quality street food you’d usually only find in the best restaurants. Fork in the Road is the brainchild of Chef Scott Cullen. An example of the type of dish you’ll find on this ride is Duck Confit Once, which includes duck bacon, duck liver mousse, brie, blackberry gastrique, and pickled shallots and greens on thin-stretched focaccia. Get a load of Cullen’s herbed truffle fries to go so you’ve got the ultimate snack for when you play slots online – the best casino games at BetMGM go well with the best side dish out there!
3. Aroy-D, the Thai Elephant
This is one of the only Thai food trucks in New Jersey, but more importantly, it’s some of the yummiest authentic Thai food you’ll get anywhere. Run for nine years by Chef Pupay (and the wife of Jon Hepner, who started the New Jersey Food Truck Association,) you’re guaranteed fragrant food that’s packed with flavor. Aroy-D also caters for special events, and in the cooler months, you can find all its dishes at Aroy-D, The Thai Elephant restaurant in Verona, Essex County. This food truck also delivers, so whether you prefer online slots or the excitement of live dealer casino games, you don’t have to interrupt the fun to feed your face!
4. Chef J’s Latin Dragon
If the name sounds interesting, that’s because the food is. Created by Chef Jeremiah Echeandia, who has more than 25 years of professional kitchen experience, a visit to this standout food truck will get you things like chorizo vegan dumplings with saffron-soffrito sweet and sour sauce, and Korean BBQ baby back ribs with sticky Jersey Spirits Bourbon sauce. Chef J’s Latin Dragon food truck is Echeandia’s personal interpretation of what he calls “upscale Asian and Latin fusion with a street-food-style twist.” Based out of Hoboken, the food truck offers both a drop-off catering and a white-glove service.
5. Flying Pie Guy
The Flying Pie Guy’s savory pot pies of golden flaky pastry, packed with beef, pork, onions, carrots, peas and other fillings, are as close to the perfect pie as you can get. There’s even a curried garden pie (vegetarian option) and the steak and shiraz pie, a collaboration with Ringoes-based Old York Cellars. The guy behind this truck’s name is Australian chef Mike Peacock, so it’s no surprise that many of the pies on the menu reference his heritage, like Australian grass-fed steak in beer gravy pies. No doubt, once you get a belly-full of these pies, you’ll keep going back for more!
6. Carnivale Donut Bar
No doubt about it, donuts and food trucks are a match made in heaven! Carnivale Donut Bar has earned its reputation for ultimate scrumptiousness, which has seen the truck catering for events like Comedy Central and other major corporate bashes. So, if you’re thinking about where to get your next sugar rush, this is one of the best places to do it. You’ll want to try Carnivale’s signature “Over the Top” shakes. For example, the S’mores shake includes Hershey’s, marshmallows and graham crackers with a fire-roasted marshmallow donut on top and Hershey’s chocolate drizzle, finished off with a chocolate-frosted rim and chocolate sprinkles. The donut bar also has vegan options available and to put the cherry on the top, you can hire it for your own private event!
7. Milk Sugar Love
The recipe for the perfect ice cream according to food truck owner Emma Taylor, is milk, sugar and love. Her skill with ice cream has earned her a reputation as one of the best ice cream makers in the state. Part of the success of Milk Sugar Love is due to the care it takes with its ingredients, using only organic milk and the best local produce. The ice cream is lovingly made by hand in small batches. Expect imaginative combos such as Earl Grey Fudge, Midnight Cocoa with Activated Charcoal, Honey Lavender, PB Cherry and Lemon Olive Oil.
8. Playa Bowls
For a healthy sweet-treat option, mosey on down to Playa Bowls, which could be just about anywhere, with 140 outlets dotted around the Garden State. Founded by New Jersey natives and long-time surfers Robert Giuliani and Abby Taylor, the Playa Bowls offering was inspired by their travels as they “chased summer on surf trips to Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, California and Hawaii.” It serves up smoothies, juices and bowls of the freshest, most delicious goodness. For example, the Goji Bowl is made up of pitaya topped with granola, banana, pineapple, goji berries, coconut flakes and honey. What could be more delicious?
