For a lot of people, it’s important to work hard and to play hard. This is why we’re going to share 10 tips on how to design your work and play space so you can have a great time, regardless of whether you’re being productive at your job or just having a fun time playing online casino games, enjoying a round of pool or watching a great movie!

5 tips to design your workspace

If you are designing your own office space at work or are creating your own workspace at home, you have a lot of freedom to design your environment to suit your productivity needs. Here are 5 things to keep in mind when creating your workspace that can help boost productivity or get organized:

1. Allow for natural lighting

While many of us appreciate being able to control the environment around us with a flick of a switch, it’ll be to your benefit to ensure your space has the option for natural lighting. Not only will this save on your energy bill, but you can also get valuable vitamin D from the sun to keep your immune system in shape, as well as a free boost for your mood!

Just make sure you have the option to control the light, whether with blinds or curtains, as unwelcome light on a computer screen or unnecessary exposure for people with sensitive skin might turn the room from a dream into a nightmare!

2. Choose a productive color scheme

Science has long established that colors can affect your mood, so when you design your room, it’s important to pick a color for the walls and other items around that room that complements a productive mindset. In the article “How the Color of Your Office Impacts Productivity,” Entrepreneur.com looks at an infographic from Taskworld and shares how different colors affect productivity. Here’s a summary of the four colors they look at:

  • Blue is associated with being a stable and calming color.
  • Green is considered a good color for people who work long hours.
  • Yellow is considered a color that can stimulate creativity.
  • Red is associated with emotion and passion.

Whatever mood you’re going for, there’s absolutely no doubt that the right color scheme can make or break your workspace, whether it’s in the office or in the organized home.

3. Consider a height-adjustable work desk

As more people end up working long hours at their desks, it’s considered more important than ever to get a height-adjustable desk that can switch between the perfect height for seated work and a standing desk. This extra feature will probably cost you more but will be a massive benefit to your body and productivity in the long run. Not only will an adjustable desk allow you to adjust your workspace to your height, allowing you to create the perfect ergonomic setup, but you can also switch it to standing mode if you need to shift gears and think on your feet for a little while.

If you are considering one of these desks and work from home, also consider investing in some home office storage. These desks are ideal when it comes to ergonomics, but they often lack drawers and small cupboards that you are used to finding on traditional office furniture. Thankfully there are a number of home storage solutions that you can find to make up for the loss of these spaces on a height-adjustable desk.

4. Make your walls inspirational

If you need to take your mind off things for a short while but don’t want to get sucked down an internet social media or news rabbit hole, it would be beneficial to consider putting some motivational pieces or just interesting art around your workspace. Whether you prefer quotes from entrepreneurs or successful athletes who you look up to, or just a visually interesting oil painting, these images can help inspire you or lower your stress levels in the quiet moments when you’re giving your mind a chance to process things.

5. Consider soundproofing to avoid letting in noise

If you’re someone who needs to minimize audio distractions, whether it’s noisy co-workers or the hustle and bustle of the world outside your office, you will seriously want to consider getting your workspace soundproofed. Again, this can be a costly affair, but it will definitely pay off in the long run as you’ll be able to focus on your work uninterrupted.

5 tips to design your play space

When you’re done working, you might want to have your own fun or games room to play in that’s a separate part of your home. If you have the opportunity to design your own play space from scratch, here are 5 things you should keep in mind:

1. Decide on a theme

If you have a main purpose to your games room or play space, whether it’s an area where you can enjoy the best online slots, play video games on the couch with your friends, or enjoy a private movie theater experience with your partner and friends, it’s a good idea to lean into that when coming up with your design plans. This will help you give the room that extra bit of character or spark that makes it stand out from the rest of your house and helps define the room’s purpose in your life.

Here are a few ideas for themes to help get the creative juices flowing:

  • Your favorite real-world casino that you’ve visited or a fictional casino that you wished you could visit

  • Your best-loved video games or video game consoles

  • Your greatest films or works from a single director, such as a Spielberg theme with his greatest films like Jaws, E.T., Indiana Jones and Jurassic park

2. Plan for the types of activities you’re going to enjoy

While your theme may dictate what experiences this space will have to offer, you’ll still need to plan and ensure that this environment has everything it needs so that you or your guests can have a great time.

For example, if your room is going to be a space for enjoying online casino games, you’ll want to ensure it has a fast and stable WiFi connection, comfortable seating for people who prefer to play on their mobile devices using casino apps, and desk space and chairs for people with computers. You’ll also need to consider whether you want to include space for a mini-bar so that people can mix a quick drink or put together a quick snack without having to leave the room.

If you plan for the room to be more of an all-round play space, you’ll still need to consider what people might need. This may include couches, TVs, chairs and a games table, as well as storage space for items, in order to make the space work.

3. Spice up the walls with some interesting art

Play spaces call for playful walls, so be sure to consider adding some interesting art to the venue. Whether you want to hire a professional artist to create a custom paint job for the room itself, or you’d prefer framing high-quality prints and photos, images at key locations around the room can help take it from dull and generic to unique and exciting.

For example, if you were planning a gaming room for you and your friends to sit back on a couch and enjoy some PlayStation or Xbox, you could consider getting some iconic prints of your favorite gaming characters. If your room is more focused on movies, you might want to get some unforgettable movie posters put up.

4. Add ambient or RGB lighting to help create the atmosphere you want

Yes, you could get some cheap LED lights and call it a day, but if you really want to make your room a memorable space, you should consider adding some ambient lighting to help define the mood of a room.

For example, yellow light is usually noted to have a stimulating effect on people, so if you’re creating a play space that is supposed to have people bouncing off the walls with energy and excitement, this would be the color to go for. On the other hand, if you want people to just chill out and relax, blue lighting is the color you should turn to.

If you’re a gamer, consider adding a touch of RGB lighting with LED strips around the room to give it that “gamer vibe” – just be careful not to go overboard with it.

5. Consider soundproofing your room to avoid letting noise out

Of course, things might get a bit raucous in your play space, which is why it’s important to consider soundproofing it. Not only will your neighbors thank you, but so will anyone else who lives in your house. After all, not everyone may not be interested in listening to a movie through your walls. Nor is it likely that they will have the same level of excitement when they hear you and your friends screaming in joy because you hit it big in an online casino game.
