This fast-paced down-on-the-farm romp features a wily fox who’s trying to get his hands — or chops — on the farmer’s prize pig. On the other hand, the pig’s main goal is to keep his snout in the trough and eat as much as he possibly can. Players contribute to fattening him up and he gets visibly rounder as the game progresses. With a nourishing 96.2% return to player (RTP) and medium volatility, this game is an absolute winner from Play’n Go. And if you’re new to playing slots online, unfamiliar with all the RTP and volatility jargon, you’ll find all your FAQs answered on the BetMGM blog.

Game Overview

Play’n Go slots are typically designed in the comic style, and Fox Mayhem is no exception. The game’s reels are in a 5×3 format with 20 paylines, a classic set-up for many online slots, including Farmyard Frenzy, another farmyard-themed game, this time from Win Studios.

Fox Mayhem pits players, Freddie the Fox, and the pig against each other in a triangle of chases, wins, and pigging out as the reels spin and symbols land in winning patterns. The maximum payout is 4,000x your wager. And if the base game isn’t exciting enough, wait until the wilds, scatters, and other special symbols land.

How To Play

The various symbols pay out for five of a kind, with the top-value meat cleaver paying 30x. The skillet pays 25x, along with a plate and shiny, sharpened knife and fork. A rasher of bacon just waiting to jump into the frying pan and the oven mitt each have a 20x value — and the best slot machines to play online are definitely those where you don’t get your fingers burnt.

The wild symbol, a clearly marked casserole pot, only drops on reels 2–5 and substitutes for all but the scatter symbol, which is a large basket of fresh farm produce. Cash prize symbols, a mushroom, carrot, and an apple also land randomly, and three of any trigger the Prize Collection feature.

Graphics

The background of this slot is all about picket fences, lush meadows, and barns. The reels are set on a rough-hewn wooden frame. The characters are comic book classics — the sly fox, licking his lips at the prospect of catching the ultimate prize, and the fat pig who quivers then scarpers as fast as he can whenever he sees the fox coming. A toe-tapping, banjo-plucking soundtrack keeps the game moving along at quite a pace, although the bonus game moves into another realm entirely with a different but similarly upbeat tune. The symbols will make players smile as rashers of bacon, a skillet, an oven mitt, and a plate with a sharpened knife and fork line up against more wholesome fresh produce. To add to the game’s rustic charm, butterflies flutter around the screen for a summery feel.

Features

Free spins are awarded when players land three, four, or five scatters across the reels, winning 10, 12, and 15 free spins, respectively. At the start of the free spins round, a random multiplier up to 20x is posted, multiplying players’ final winnings for the round by that number.

The Prize Collection triggers when three or more food symbols land. This feature has a lock and spin mechanism where symbols land and stick. With each additional symbol, respins refresh. This feature comes up in the base game but with more frequency in the bonus spins rounds.

Bonuses and Jackpot

Players are awarded a bonus round if they can land three, four, or five scatters across the reels simultaneously. Scatters reward players with 10, 12, or 15 respins, and more cash symbols are added to the reels.

In the bonus round, landing fewer than three cash symbols pays instant cash prizes as well as random multipliers that push up winnings by up to 20x.

The Prize Collection bonus game rewards players each time the mushroom (value 1.60), apple (16), or carrot (8) lands and sticks. Respins are set at three and refresh each time a paying symbol lands. A life is lost if no symbol lands during that spin. The bonus payout happens when all respins are exhausted, or the reel is covered in pay symbols. When players are lucky enough to land more food, it’s added to the pig’s trough, and the total value is added to players’ winnings. Happy pig, happy players. Unhappy fox, who, of course, is never allowed to catch his quarry.

Similar Games

Play’n Go’s humorous take on its characters makes for some of the best online slots, and its catalog includes other animal-themed slots like Piggy Blitz and Ruff Heist, as well as a pirate story in Captain Glum Pirate Hunter, which is featured among the many slot game reviews on BetMGM. The Robin Hood-inspired Sherwood Gold definitely doesn’t steal from the rich but may reward the poor, so have a look at that.
