Four Card Poker Game Highlights

Whether you’re new to the world of poker or are already an experienced player, Four Card Poker, online or in person, can be an excellent way to enjoy poker. The game is a far more fast-paced experience, as it’s a head-to-head game where you play against the dealer. This also means you don’t have to worry about learning skills like poker tells or positioning and other factors that are vital in regular poker games. It also only requires you to make a hand using four of your five cards, meaning you’re more likely to hit stronger hands than you would in a typical poker game. Another great reason to give Four Card Poker a try is its low house edge, as it has an expected return to player (RTP) of 98.68%.

Does Four Card Poker Pay Real Money?

When you are physically located in one of the states where BetMGM casino is legal and regulated, you can place real-money bets and stand a chance to win real money prizes. The four U.S. states where you can legally gamble at BetMGM are New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and West Virginia.

How To Play Four Card Poker

After you log in to your casino account and start the game, you’ll need to select your denomination value from the list of available options at the bottom of the screen. This is important because this value counts for your ante bet, your play bet if you don’t fold, and the “Aces Up” side bet if you choose to wager on it.

Once you’ve chosen the betting denomination, you can select the “ante bet” option as many times as you want to confirm your total wager. For example, if you select the $0.10 denomination, you can click eight times to wager $0.80. Similarly, if you select the $0.50 denomination, clicking eight times wagers $4 in total. You can repeat this process for the Aces Up side bet as well.

When you are ready, select “Deal” and the dealer’s and your hand will be dealt. All five of your cards are face up, while only one of the dealer’s cards is face up. You then have three options from which to choose:

  • 1x ante: bet 1x your ante wager
  • 3x ante: bet 3x your ante wager
  • Fold: fold your current hand

Once you’ve made your decision, the dealer’s four face-down cards will be revealed. Hand rankings will be assessed, and a winner declared.

You can then choose to place a “New Bet” or to “Rebet & Deal” with the same bet you made previously.

Four Card Poker Game Features

There are other head-to-head poker games, but the standout feature of Four Card Poker is that you only need the best four cards to beat the house.

Four Card Poker Bonuses and Jackpots

The first bonus in this game is the Aces Up side bet. Here, you wager on whether you’ll receive a pair of aces — or more — in your hand. If you do, you’ll receive the winnings from this side bet. The outcome of this wager isn’t affected by the dealer’s hand, as the player can still win the side bet even if they lose against the dealer. It has an expected RTP of 96.63%.

If you land an Aces Up and have one of the following hands, you’ll receive an additional payout with the following odds:

Four of a kind +5,000
Straight flush +3,000
Three of a kind +700
Flush +600
Straight +500
Two pair +200
Pair of aces ±100

The player also has a chance to increase their win with the second bonus in Four Card Poker, the “Ante Bonus”. The Ante Bonus will trigger for the following three hands and multiply the value of your ante bet:

Four of a kind 25x
Straight flush 20x
Three of a kind 2x

The Ante Bonus will pay out regardless of whether the player wins or loses.

How To Win Four Card Poker

Winning at Four Card Poker uses hand rankings that are different from regular poker. Here’s how the hand rankings work in Four Card Poker, from strongest to weakest:

  • Four of a kind: Four cards of the same value
  • Straight flush: Four cards in sequence from the same suit
  • Three of a kind: Three cards of the same value
  • Flush: Four cards from the same suit
  • Straight: Four cards in sequence from different suits
  • Two pair: Two matching cards of the same value plus an additional two matching cards of a different value
  • Pair: Two cards of the same value
  • High card: The highest-ranked single card in your hand

If you want to increase your odds of winning, here are some beginner tips that you can add to your Four Card Poker strategy:

  1. Fold on any hand where you don’t have at least a pair.
  2. Bet 1x ante on any pair of 9s or less.
  3. Bet 3x ante on any hand with a pair of 10s or more.
