To determine the cities where downtown living costs the most, we analyzed the average home values in America’s 100 largest cities and compared them to the home values in downtown zip codes in those cities.
We did the same thing for rent costs. All rental data is based on how much is paid per month.
The zip codes we used were the centralmost zip codes in downtown areas in every city. Where home or rental value data wasn’t available, we used the next-closest zip code for our comparisons.
All home value and rent cost data comes from Zillow and is accurate as of October 2024.
